Swimmin Pool Installation in the Outer Banks, NC - Colington Harbour

This Tuesday, we finished installing a pretty inground swimming pool in a beautiful house in Colington Harbor, NC, overlooking the Roanoke Sound.

Despite the freezing cold weather and the rain, we took our camera guys there to shoot as we lay the pool on the ground. On the video, you’ll see Dien Davis and Warner Dashiell doing some last minute touch up before the pool is installed.

Notice how the well pumps are always in place – we leave an entire set of pipes in every new swimming pool we install, in the rare case that we need to come in for repair.

Before we get to the video, I wanted to point out something more important than the pool itself, and the same thing we told the homeowner when he approached us looking for a pool builder:

You may be thinking that a pool in a house in Colington Harbor, that is basically sitting on the water may be superfluous, and that is only going to incur more maintenance from the homeowner. Well, you may be right in a lot of places in the US, but not in the Outer Banks.

The folks that own that house were accustomed to making $50-80k in Vacation Rental revenue per year. Over the past few years, that revenue has dropped considerably due not only to the recession, but the fact that vacationers are more interested in being close to the ocean than the sound.

Now, with a pool, this house becomes much more attractive, because of two main reasons:

• Even though the Homeowner will increase its rent price by 20-25%, vacationers will still pay much less than for an Oceanfront location.
• With the new swimming pool, being such a large residence, the house becomes attractive to family vacationers that travel with seniors. They usually have a hard time on the beach and would much rather sit in the porch and still be part of the family activities.
